Romania: Sibiu

Sibiu is definitely  one of the most beautiful cities in our country! After being named a European Cultural Capital, alongside Luxembourg in 2007, it underwent huge renovations and got an increase in value all around. It was definitely one of the best things that could have happened to the region.  Personally, I visited a few times, with the occasion of several events, so it was just wonderful to be back! Especially if you have a limited amount of time to visit Romania, I would highly recommend anyone giving this region a go!

I wish we would have had more time to properly explore the city, but with only half day at our disposal, we had to settle for the main area in the city center.

In the following pictures you can see: the pedestrian street leading to the Grand Square, filled with terraces, souvenir shops, art shops, all inside beautiful buildings, the Grand Square, one of the biggest in Transylvania, The Luxembourg House, situated in the Small Square, the Bridge of Lies, the first cast iron bridge in Romania, with a really nice legend behind it, saying that the bridge has ears and a great power so that when lovers would stand on it and swear their love to each other, if they were lying, the bridge would collapse...and then there is the Council Tower which makes the connection between the Small Square and the Grand Square and which can be climbed up to take some really nice rooftop pictures.

We spent the other half of our day at the Astra open air museum just outside Sibiu, in Dumbrava Sibiului, but we'll leave that for another post.
